FITTED | Jonathan Cavaliere
In our newest edition of FITTED, menswear aficionado Jonathan Cavaliere, founder of men’s lifestyle blog Mr. Cavaliere, paid a visit to Over the Rainbow to check out some of the newest fashion pieces for Fall/Winter 2016. Back from his recent travels in Greece, Mr. Cavaliere himself was more than happy to share some his personal insights on fashion and life. We also asked Mr. Cavaliere about his beginnings and what he enjoys about blogging and social media.
Q: What influenced you to start your own lifestyle blog? How do you feel your own following has grown & changed over the years?
I started Mr. Cavaliere back in 2011, while I was studying Fashion Arts at Humber College. Originally, the blog was a way for me to document my style progression, while giving my friends tips on what to wear. As the years went by, I developed a name for myself and guys started to trust Mr. Cavaliere as a place to get great style advice. Over the years, the blog has grown from a style source guide to more of a lifestyle website, as we currently cover everything from grooming to cocktails.
Q: What is your favourite social media platform to post on and why?
Instagram is by far my favorite social media platform. I have always been a firm believer that a picture is worth a thousand words, and Instagram is exactly the right platform for that discussion. Whether it’s a post of a great outfit, your perfectly curated lunch, or a beautiful building you walk by on your way to work, Instagram gives you the power to show the beauty of your surroundings to the world.
Q: Do you believe men’s fashion has evolved since you started blogging? Is the audience for men’s fashion growing?
When I started blogging, if you were a man that dressed well, you were immediately labeled as metrosexual. Now, men have the freedom to dress the way they want, without negative connotations. With the rise of more men caring about their appearance, my audience has substantially grown and men who previously had no interest in great menswear are asking where they can go to get great-fitting selvedge jeans.
Q: How would you describe your personal clothing style?
If I had to describe my personal style in two words, it would be: laid back sophistication. I am a fan of mixing and matching items that I love, but many men wouldn’t think of pairing together. For example, I am a big fan of tailored jackets. However, instead of wearing the coordinating pants, I like to throw on a chino, or if I am feeling extra adventurous, a slim cargo pant.
Q: What is the one “must have” piece in your wardrobe?
I have a couple of pieces that I think every guy should own. If I had to choose one, it would have to be a pair of great-fitting, dark indigo denim. Dark jeans are an essential in any man’s wardrobe and will get better and more comfortable with each wear. Not to mention that they can be dressed up or down and will look great with everything in your closet.
Q: What did you think of your one-on-one fitting at Over the Rainbow? How do you feel about the products & services we offer?
The one-on-one fitting at Over the Rainbow was truly an unmatched experience. The team was very conscious of my style preferences and recommended items that would fit my body impeccably. Being a guy with more muscular legs (thank you, soccer), finding a great pair of jeans has always been something I’ve struggled with. Thankfully, Over the Rainbow has the biggest denim selection in North America and I found a couple of brands and cuts that I didn’t even know existed. On top of this, my jeans were quickly altered and ready to wear that same day. With this type of exquisite service, I will definitely be coming back for my next pair.
